![]() ![]() Brave New World Revisited is a trenchant plea that humankind should educate itself for freedom before it is too late. In his Brave New World Revisited, Aldous Huxley writes to tell us how his nightmarish Brave New World has quite nearly become reality. He scrutinizes threats to humanity, such as overpopulation, propaganda, and chemical persuasion, and explains why we have found it virtually impossible to avoid them. In this twelve-part work of nonfiction, one of the most important and fascinating books of his career, Huxley uses his tremendous knowledge of human relations to compare the modern-day world with his prophetic fantasy. Written more than twenty-five years later, Brave New World Revisited is a re-evaluation of his predictions based on the changes he witnessed over that time. When Aldous Huxley wrote his famous novel Brave New World, he did so with the belief that the dystopian world he created was a true possibility given the direction of the social, political and economic world order. ![]() It is a frightening experience, indeed, to discover how much of his satirical prediction of a distant future became reality in so short a time." - New York Times Book Review In 1958, Huxley wrote an essay on his novel called 'Brave New World Revisited' in which he examines how society has advanced toward his horrid vision of the future. "Huxley uses his erudite knowledge of human relations to compare our actual world with his prophetic fantasy of 1931. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Can the base be saved, or will the human oasis amid the sea of death finally succumb to evil and corruption? There we have 5 books, 3 of which I have enjoyed, 2 of which I have not. Unfortunately I have placed Charlotte Gray next to A Week in December on my shelf – symbolic as a bit of a disappointment. I have loved some of Faulks’ other works Birdsong, Englby and On Green Dolphin Street were all really engaging, informative, beautifully written and entertaining. ![]() I can fully appreciate the work that goes into a book like this, it is therefore all the more disappointing when it doesn’t live up to your expectations. No one can deny the level of research that he must have done to make sure his French trilogy novels, of which Charlotte Gray is the last book, were factually correct. There is little doubt that Sebastian Faulks knows quite a bit about France and her role in the second world war. ![]() ![]() ![]() Narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, favourites of the author who also lent their voices to the first two audiobook instalments of the Stormlight Archives, Oathbringer is a thrilling, addictive listen. Follow his story and the stories of other characters as they weave together, and get lost in the epic, expansive world of Roshar. He is an upright leader and devoted follower of the Alethi Codes of War, but there is more to Dalinar than meets the eye. In Oathbringer, we enter the mind of Dalinar Kholin, Highprince of Alethkar and Shardbearer. ![]() Sanderson’s novels explore complex themes of good and evil, power and its abuse, rigid hierarchies and what makes us defy them. Mighty warriors and ancient magicks: continue Brandon Sanderson’s epic fantasy saga with Oathbringer, the third instalment of the Stormlight Archives series.ĭebuting at number one on both the New York Times Best Seller list and Audible’s own, Oathbringer is the latest instalment in Brandon Sanderson’s critically acclaimed Stormlight Archives series. ![]() ![]() ![]() The whole carefully contrived plot to make the H look paranoid is derailed by the baddie typing H's name in a secure computer database (why not just use "John Smith"!). ![]() There were silly plot holes: Illegal squatters decide to install in a hot tub H was in hiding but h’s brother somehow knew that he had brought a diamond ring security experts fail to find any listening bugs but then later on go back and suddenly do find them. It all got just a little bit boring and the story dragged in the middle. ![]() Since when does disappearing for 3 days and putting friends and family into a panic achieve anything? Apart from allowing the couple to have lots of steamy sex of course. Couldn’t she just wear a hat and stay in the car? The whole plot line was unconvincing. There was a really silly scene where she had to dress up like a cheap hooker, just so they could check into a cheap motel without her being identified. The h was English, titled, privileged and much is made of the fact that she manages to pick up spiders and dead birds, and go camping etc. The romance was unconvincing with no real reason why they could not hook up but some misguided nonsense by the H that he was in some way damaged (ex-Military/survivors guilt). Unfortunately this one just did not match up. I have listened to most of the books in this series and liked them all. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() “This is about how you can use your voice to support others.”ĭescribed as an “inspirational guide” for children aged between 10 and 14, You Can Do It will see the footballer “encourage readers to use their voice to champion causes they care about”, and give advice about the importance of teamwork, how “even the smallest changes can have the biggest impact”, and how to “use your voice to make a meaningful change for the better”.Īnka said he “leapt” at the chance to collaborate with Rashford again. “The insight sessions were brilliant and I’m proud of the outcome, focusing on how we can best champion one another, and view difference as a positive rather than a means to discriminate,” Rashford said. ![]() ![]() ![]() To begin, click the purple email icon to send this author a private email, and be sure to describe your book or include a link to your Readers' Favorite review page or Amazon page. No matter the time that passes, whether we are reading the past or the present chapters, we can feel the connection between the heroes and heroines as they slowly battle their feelings for each other until one of them decides that they can’t wait any longer to profess their love for the other. I found each couple really cute and fun to read and loved the fact that when reading each story, you could feel the pining that they have for each other. ![]() I gave Loathe to Love You an overall four stars, really enjoying all three short stories.
